Definitely not my favorite of Johanna Lindsey. Love Only Once wasn't a romance or a love story in my honest opinion. The hero, Nicholas is a notorious rake, of course. He's a secret illegitimate child and was treated horribly by his 'mother' thus believes he cannot marry and inflict his bastard status upon his wife and future children. This is a major running character conflict throughout the story until the very end. It causes him much trouble and makes him act and do very idiotic things. TheWow, was this a let-down. So many friends liked this and I am struggling to figure out how. Nick is a dead loss from start to finish. And I kind of hated how often Reg just gives in to him because he's hot.And his reasons! I don't care how (view spoiler)[forced your hand was in marrying, dumping your wife at the door of your home and then leaving the country is monstrous.
