Maybe I'm a bit biased while writing my review. I don't like that Coehlo is so deeply influenced by religion, and it shows in his writing. If there's anything I'm trying to evade at all cost, would be religion. I felt the book was very spiritual, and while it was good, warm, and whatnot, I couldn't stop thinking that every page turn was a new sermon. Coehlo's style of writing is very deep and thoughtful, and his word choices are beautiful. His style of writing is something I can praise. HePaolo Coelho is definitely one of my top 5 favourite authors. He has set the bar really high with 'The Alchemist', a book I keep going back to for motivation and direction in life. The Fifth Mountain brings into perspective the struggles of a prophet and Paolo does a good job of accentuating the moments of doubt in his sacred journey. Another crappy book by Coelho... I don't know which bugs me more: his boring, overly simplistic writing style or his problematic, platitude-laden philosophical musings (with which he beats readers black and blue). Some people call Coelho's writing "poetic," but to me his books are about as literary as a Hardy Boys novel. Okay, honestly, at first, I was planning to rate it with two stars but the ending was good. So it's good to finish the story first because mostly in Paulo's works, everything will cleared up and be realized at the ending.So why still rated it three? Im at the end of my box set, thankfully not all of the works, of Coelho novels. This one Ive been struggling with for some weeks now - although the only struggles were finding the motivation to pick it up again - I only reached page 60 of 243 - and then eventually shelving it. Based wholly around the prophet Elijah, which in itself could be engaging, this book is page after page of tedium, and reminds me of the cryptic words, frequently nonsensical, from my childhood religious days.
