A SHATTERED EMPIRE The mad Shōgun Yoritomo has been assassinated by the Stormdancer Yukiko, and the threat of civil war looms over the Shima Imperium. The Lotus Guild conspires to renew the nation’s broken dynasty and crush the growing rebellion simultaneously – by endorsing a new Shōgun who desires nothing more than to see Yukiko dead. A DARK LEGACY Yukiko and the mighty thunder tiger Buruu have been cast in the role of heroes by the Kagé rebellion. But Yukiko herself is blinded by rage over her father’s death, and her ability to hear the thoughts of beasts is swelling beyond her power to control. Along with Buruu, Yukiko’s anchor is Kin, the rebel Guildsman who helped her escape from Yoritomo’s clutches. But Kin has his own secrets, and is haunted by visions of a future he’d rather die than see realized. A GATHERING STORM Kagé assassins lurk within the Shōgun’s palace, plotting to end the new dynasty before it begins. A waif from Kigen’s gutters begins a friendship that could undo the entire empire. A new enemy gathers its strength, readying to push the fracturing Shima imperium into a war it cannot hope to survive. And across raging oceans, amongst islands of black glass, Yukiko and Buruu will face foes no katana or talon can defeat. The ghosts of a blood-stained past.

This book made me lose my faith in the power of love.I mean I always had a voice at the back of my mind - Dumbledore's to be precise - telling me that love is the greatest of all magic. Then he would also tell me I was a witch, fooled by my insecure muggle parents all these years and would be whisked a-way to the world of magic...Kinslayer almost destroyed that.How?So. Much. Betrayal. This book had the whole pseudo-Japanese Steampunk thingie going on as was in the first book but on a whole darker

Stormdancer was one of my favourite books of 2012. Im happy to report that Kinslayer not only lived up to the first epic story but completely surpassed it in awesome. Excuse me while I have a bit of a gushy moment! Ill try to describe what I love about this book without actually talking about what happens you need to read that for yourself. Its been a few months since Yukiko and Buruu killed Shogun Yoritomo, losing her father and kick-starting a massive rebellion in the process. The Stormdancer

There are still many problems with the writing, including heavily convoluted prose and stereotypes galore, but the story is very imaginative and engaging and I am hooked! Going to the next ASAP:-)

Before Reading: LOOK AT THE COVERS. OH MY GOODNESS. SO PRETTY. This is the UK cover. Super gorgeous. Yukiko is ready to slice people open. Awesome. Also, the waterfall is lovely. I am in love with this cover. And this is the US. And while I loved the UK, I completely adore the US. For the first book I preferred the UK, but... This captures the book SO WELL. Also, Buruu is such a big part of the story that I feel like he needs to be on the cover and he wasn't on the cover of the UK. So... I

After a handy dandy random "This book is for English speaking audience" comment I received on my blog (since I am currently using English, please enlighten me about how I don't fit into the English-speaking audience) I made a decision to review Kinslayer rather than rewriting my angst-ridden negative review on Stormdancer and rehashing the discussion because frankly I want the bygones to be bygones but the issues with this series seems to latch upon me whenever I try to forget about it. But I'll

Good shit, ladies and gentleman. Really good shit. <3 Can't wait to sink into "Endsinger"!

So, book 2 of the The Lotus War is darker than the already shading towards dark story that began in Stormdancer. I would say things are at a low point for the characters, and it can't get much darker, but I expect that I will be proven wrong about that.Overall this continues to be a pretty engaging story that, apparently true to Kristoff's other books, is full of action and moves along quickly. There were a few twists I saw coming, but others that ended up being a real surprise. I wouldn't say
