I like this book but it is somewhat sad, because of Strix Struma's death. Like Otulissa, I had very much liked Strix Struma, so her death was very sad to me. I don't think that the Strix Struma Strikers can be the Strix Struma Strikers without the dignified and beloved Spotted Owl that they were named for and leaded by. But she died at the talons of Her Pureness General Mam Nyra, mate of Metal Beak (a.k.a. KLUDD and HIGH TYTO), so Struma's death was a war-caused death. [i'll stop right here withI swear these books keep getting better and better with each installment that comes my way. While it is still plagued by the need to remind us about stuff we already know, the positives outnumber the negatives, with some character development. I hope my gurl Otulissa will be okay. She has seen some serious sh*t lately!The story is still gripping with some good action, and this time lots of battles to be fought and won come the next installments, as it left on a very eerie cliffhanger. The scrooms in book 3 were annoying, but now Soren is getting some kind of second sight with prophetic dreams. I really liked the idea of Soren's strength being "gizzuition." Why does it have to have a supernatural element all of the sudden? I don't expect things like that to crop up four books into a series.
An entertaining romp, to say the least. Personally, I find that the character development has stilled for the time being. The omniscient view seems like a bit of a detriment to both development and battle scenes. Since you're not grounded in one owl's head, you don't feel their fears, excitement, or pain. The battles, therefore, feel somewhat anticlimactic. You don't feel the rush or tension, nor do you share that sigh of relief when the battle comes to a close. However, the story kept me
**No specific spoilers, but events discussed generally, like in a synopsis**In this book, the Pure Ones are growing stronger. Their terrible cruelty is seen. The seven work together, learning about each other and carrying out important missions. The owls are truly at war now.There's definitely some character growth, which is interesting to watch. Characters change and are challenged. I think the book could use a bit more tragedy, being at war and all, but it's mostly good. I'd like to find out
In The Seige by Kathryn Lasky the guardians find out that Kludd is preparing to launch an attack on the great tree. So they go to war and begin to take precautions in order to protect thier home and everyone is going crazy preparing for the attack. Many are put in groups that are tasked with building defenses. Though many precautions are taken owls still die when an attack comes such as Strix Struma an experienced owl who Otulissa looked up to. The battle because of this took a heavy burden on
Listened to this one on audio. The reader was pretty good. For all of them: I don't like: the taking of "Glaux's" name in vain all the time, or the "bad language" the Owls use; the intensity of some of the evil displayed; the scrooms or other such ghostly or dark magic talk. Outside of that, the writer is very good, believable, exciting, and I loved the allusions to Winston Churchill and the Battle of Britain in this book.
