ORIGINALLY POSTED AT Fantasy Literature.I read The Farseer Saga years ago and have since considered it one of my favorite fantasy epics. It's one (along with The Lord of the Rings and Memory, Sorrow and Thorn) that I often suggest to new fantasy readers. But after more than a decade of reading deeper and further into fantasy literature, I've often wondered how well this saga would now appeal to my more mature (I hope) palate. When Tantor Audio recently released The Farseer Saga on audio, I was
It was a very enjoyable book, and I think my favorite thing about it was reading a well-written book in from the first-person perspective. I think Robin Hobb was masterful in that aspect of the writing. It adds a fun dynamic to a story when you can get completely get inside the head of a character. One impressive thing that was done with the first person view was how little we know... because the character doesn't know them. For example: There's all sorts of court intrigue and secret plots going

This novel was everything I wanted, even though I had read a few reviews that claimed it lacked focus and action. Hobb reintroduces us to FitzChivalry Farseer, the royal assassin of the Farseer line, and all of his friends and enemies. The mysterious Redship raiders are back, plundering the coastline while the King of the Six Duchies slowly descends into senility. Fitz feels helpless to stop his beloved lord's decline, but works hand in glove with the King's son, Verity, to discover the truth
I really loved the first in this trilogy but found the second harder to get through. The first 3rd in particular was a bit dull. I didn't enjoy the explanation and development of the wit surrounding Fitz and his wolf. Once that piece wrapped up, I was able to get back into it.
I will never forget this series- the best I hae ever read.

Let me start off by saying that I liked these first two books in the series. A lot. I would have appreciated it if more was explained about Skilling in the first book, and what its limits are. That said, before I started reading this, I always thought it'd be a darker story, with an older character and some quest for revenge. Maybe someone can write a decent fan-fiction in that setting. Nonetheless, I really liked the story and I can't wait to start reading the 3rd one. Good job, Robin.ORIGINALLY POSTED AT Fantasy Literature.I read The Farseer Saga years ago and have since considered it one of my favorite fantasy epics.
